Note Description

The play follows Prince Hamlet of Denmark, who is grieving the death of his father, the former king. His mother, Gertrude, quickly remarries his uncle Claudius, who has taken the throne. Hamlet encounters the ghost of his father, who reveals that Claudius murdered him to seize power and urges Hamlet to seek revenge.Hamlet feigns madness to investigate the truth, leading to a series of tragic events, including the accidental killing of Polonius, the father of his love interest, Ophelia. Ophelia descends into madness and ultimately drowns. Laertes, Ophelia's brother, returns to avenge their father’s death.In a final duel between Hamlet and Laertes, both are wounded by a poisoned sword. Gertrude accidentally drinks poisoned wine intended for Hamlet and dies. In his dying moments, Hamlet kills Claudius and names Fortinbras as the next king. The play concludes with the tragic downfall of the royal family and the arrival of Fortinbras to take control of Denmark.
