The concubine presents the story of a beautiful young woman, Ihuoma whose spiritual lover, the sea-god, killed all men who came her way including her husband Emenike, Madume, a greedy unsuccessful man, and Ekwueme, a young hunter who later showed interest in her after the demise of her husband. A Marxist and Feminist analysis of The Concubine unveils a class struggle, the quest for wealth leading to violence, patriarchal system coupled with the discrimination of genders in a feudal and a monarchical system.
